Effective Cleaning Strategies for Schools and Educational Buildings

Keeping learning environments safe and clean

In schools and educational buildings, cleanliness isn’t just about appearance—it’s about creating a safe, healthy and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. These are busy places and the demands on cleaning teams are high and ever-changing. At It’s Clean Ltd, we understand these pressures and partner with schools across Yorkshire to deliver effective, reliable and responsive cleaning strategies.

Here’s what makes the difference

1. Tailored Cleaning Schedules That Work Around You

Every school operates differently, and so does our cleaning approach. By working closely with staff on site and leadership teams, we build bespoke cleaning programmes that align with the school calendar, peak usage times and any special requirements.

Our clients in this sector have highlighted the benefits of our flexible and proactive scheduling—minimising disruption while maintaining a consistently high standard. Read some of their testimonials here.

2. On-Site Support and Responsive Communication

Problems can arise in any busy environment – it’s the speed with which they are resolved that matters. Our local team ensures any issues—whether staffing, supplies or reactive cleans—are dealt with swiftly. This reliability is a major reason our educational partners choose us and continue to trust us year after year.

3. Training and Consistency Across the Team

The quality of a cleaning strategy hinges on the team delivering it. All our staff undergo thorough training and we carry out regular audits to maintain high standards. For schools, that means consistency—week in, week out.

One school client noted that having the same trusted team made a huge difference to staff and student confidence.

4. Site-Specific Risk Awareness and Training

Schools have unique risk profiles that include busy corridors, technology suites and high-touch surfaces. Our teams are trained to work with the specific needs of schools, colleges and learning environments. Read more about how we train our staff in the expert tasks involved in cleaning electronic and electrical equipment.

5. Partnership That Goes Beyond the Basics

We see ourselves as more than just a cleaning contractor—we’re a service partner. Schools like Ripon Grammar School value our proactive attitude and professional culture. Relationships like this matter. Our teams take pride in their work, stay alert to site-specific needs and consistently go above and beyond.

Looking Ahead

As the educational landscape continues to evolve, so do the challenges. Whatever the needs of our clients, we’re here to help.

If your school, college or trust is reviewing its cleaning provision, we’d love to talk.

When I hit 60, I didn't want a party. I wanted to do something that would actually matter. So instead of celebrating at home, I flew to Ghana and spent a week volunteering with a charity called Village by Village getting my hands dirty, sitting in open-air classrooms, and meeting some of the warmest, most resilient people I have ever encountered anywhere in the world. This is what I found there, and why I think you should know about it. The Charity Village by Village was founded by an old school friend of mine and has, over the years, evolved into something beautifully self-sustaining: it is now predominantly run by Ghanaians in Ghana. That is not an accident, it is central to the charity's entire philosophy. The approach is simple and powerful. Before a single brick is laid, the charity asks the village what they need, and what they can contribute. There is no imposition, no outside organisation deciding what is best for communities they don't understand. The result is genuine local ownership, stronger outcomes, and projects that endure long after the volunteers have gone home. The work focuses on two areas: education and healthcare. In the remote villages of Ghana that the government's budget cannot reach, Village by Village builds schools and medical centres from the ground up and then keeps them supported. What a Volunteer Week Actually Looks Like I'll be honest: I wasn't sure what to expect. What I got was a genuinely physical, genuinely meaningful week that I will never forget. Most mornings began on a building site, mixing cement alongside professional local builders, plastering walls, shifting materials. I wore a bright pink polo shirt bearing the logo of my company, It's Clean, which helped fund the trip, and I got absolutely filthy in it. There is something grounding about hard physical labour in service of something real. There were also two young men — just finished their A-levels — who were wrapping up three months of volunteering. In that time they had helped build playgrounds and medical facilities with their own hands. Their energy, their commitment, and what they had achieved at their age was genuinely extraordinary.
