GP surgery after cleaning by It's Clean

If only real life was a ‘Carry On’ movie, then GP Surgeries wouldn’t have to stress so much about CQC?

‘CQC you say? Now what is that, matron?’

GP surgeries and health centres should ensure they engage the services of a professional commercial cleaning company, as they receive yearly inspections from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This organisation ensures that healthcare providers are assessed to confirm that the care provided meets the government's standards of quality and safety for both patients and staff.

It's Clean conform to CQC standards for the GP surgeries we clean. For every site we clean, we create job cards, which adhere to religiously.

‘Ooh job cards, tell me more matron!’

Our job cards factor in each area of the site i.e. consulting rooms, waiting rooms, toilets, staircases, corridors, staff rooms and kitchens. Then, under each area of the site we document the specific cleaning jobs that need to be completed for the surgery to be safe for patients and staff to use.

The importance of cleaning standards is critical in an environment that is repeatedly exposed to germs and bacteria. Cleaning standards are put in place to ensure that patients entering the building, are protected from any other harmful germs and bacteria that may be festering in the surgery. So, when Mrs Windsor arrives for her monthly check-up, she won't be leaving with anything else.

Ensuring that the environment is safe for patients and staff to occupy is a number one priority for cleaning companies such as It's Clean.

So, what are the benefits of a clean and safe surgery?

  1. Improve patient recovery rates.
  2. Healthy medical staff.
  3. Boosts the morale of the medical staff which ensures patient's satisfaction and increases standards of medical treatment.
  4. Helps to create a pleasant environment for patients visiting the surgery.
  5. Prevents patients from picking up infections at the surgery, as it reduces the number of bacteria and germs in the building.

Cleanliness and disinfection in the healthcare sector is extremely important as it is an environment that is regularly exposed to germs and bacteria. To reduce this high level of risk, a regular cleaning regime implemented by a professional commercial cleaning company is vital.

‘Ooh matron, you are so clever’

When I hit 60, I didn't want a party. I wanted to do something that would actually matter. So instead of celebrating at home, I flew to Ghana and spent a week volunteering with a charity called Village by Village getting my hands dirty, sitting in open-air classrooms, and meeting some of the warmest, most resilient people I have ever encountered anywhere in the world. This is what I found there, and why I think you should know about it. The Charity Village by Village was founded by an old school friend of mine and has, over the years, evolved into something beautifully self-sustaining: it is now predominantly run by Ghanaians in Ghana. That is not an accident, it is central to the charity's entire philosophy. The approach is simple and powerful. Before a single brick is laid, the charity asks the village what they need, and what they can contribute. There is no imposition, no outside organisation deciding what is best for communities they don't understand. The result is genuine local ownership, stronger outcomes, and projects that endure long after the volunteers have gone home. The work focuses on two areas: education and healthcare. In the remote villages of Ghana that the government's budget cannot reach, Village by Village builds schools and medical centres from the ground up and then keeps them supported. What a Volunteer Week Actually Looks Like I'll be honest: I wasn't sure what to expect. What I got was a genuinely physical, genuinely meaningful week that I will never forget. Most mornings began on a building site, mixing cement alongside professional local builders, plastering walls, shifting materials. I wore a bright pink polo shirt bearing the logo of my company, It's Clean, which helped fund the trip, and I got absolutely filthy in it. There is something grounding about hard physical labour in service of something real. There were also two young men — just finished their A-levels — who were wrapping up three months of volunteering. In that time they had helped build playgrounds and medical facilities with their own hands. Their energy, their commitment, and what they had achieved at their age was genuinely extraordinary.
